Ranunculus

February 20, 2011

In 2003 we back-packed through the mountains near Abisko, Sweden, ranunculus blooming all over. Hiking at 11:00 pm because the sun just circled round the horizon in a continuous sunset/sunrise.  A bit of snow. Mid-summer.

This little wonder of the flower world is one of my all-time favorites. Ranunculus is available as a cut flower most of the year, but truly shines in early spring.  The range of colors available is fantastic. These new green-petaled varieties are intricate displays of beautiful breeding. And in my experience, look best with a little snow in the background.
